Sacre Coeur has to be my favorite landmark in Paris. In addition to it being quite nice to look at, it has also proved itself very useful. Whenever I am lost (never lost, just taking the scenic route), Sacre Coeur becomes my North Star. If I can see it in the distance, I know which direction I am heading. Once up on the hill, you can also look down over the whole city of Paris and try to pick out other landmarks – the Centre Pompidou, the big construction crane hanging over the Louvre, the huge St. Vincent de Paul church…
Will took that picture last Sunday – a beautiful sunny day with lots of people milling around enjoying the weather, sitting in the grass, and watching this guy:
The most amazing freestyle-soccer-ball-juggler (?) that I have ever seen. He finished his twenty minute routine — only dropping the ball once — by climbing up this light pole and dribbling the ball up there. Incroyable! He must perform around the basilica frequently because when I got home, I looked him up, and there were lots of YouTube videos of him. It turns out his name is Iya Traore; he’s from Guinnea and is a Guinness Book of World Records holder.
Anyway, that’s just a little look at my favorite Paris landmark (so far).
